You're a Gem

Hi there!  I'm back today with my very last two layouts today that I created for a guest spot over at Shimelle.com.  I'm sharing two more ideas for titles.

You're a Gem

I love a simple mixed title. I think that mixing up supplies that you already have on hand can give them a fresh and unique look. To create the title for this page I simply combined die-cuts with Shimelle’s gold glitter thickers. The die cuts are basic but the thickers add interest and texture. The result is a fun mixed title.

Hello Love

Brush script is a creative way to bring originality into your memory keeping. There is nothing that draws me in to a project more than seeing a unique brush script title. To create my title for this page I first started by hand painting a large quotation bubble onto my page using a light watercolor pink. After my page dried, I hand painted the words “hello love” using black acrylic paint. For best results it is important to use a paint brush that it designed for calligraphy and sketching. To create my title I used a fine tipped size two bamboo paint brush.

Happy Happy Happy

I'm back today to share two more of my layouts, I created for my 5 Things guest post at Shimelle.com!

Happy

Hand cut letters are all the rage and are becoming a big trend within the scrapbook community. I decided to create my own hand cut letters and used them as a graphic design element on my page. To create my hand cut letters I first hand drew the word happy onto black cardstock paper with a pencil, and then cut it out. Since I decided to repeat the word “happy” three times to create my title, I just retraced them two more times and then cut them out by hand. This technique creates a fun handmade look.

Oh My

Hand stitching is one of my favorite techniques. Sometimes I use templates, sometimes I create my own. To create my title on this page I first started by cutting out the word “Oh” using my Silhouette. I then used the negative (leftover piece of paper from the cut) as a stencil to create my stitched word. With a needle, I poked holes around the word and then stitched it up using black embroidery thread. I also, added the die cut word “my” and some letter stickers to finish off my title.

I will be back next week to share my final two layouts made for the Shimelle blog! Thanks for looking!

Shimelle 5 Things with Titles

I was so excited to be asked to share a 5 Things post on the Shimelle blog last week!  My post was about how to create 5 Things with different types of titles.  When I saw the Shimelle collection I was instantly taken with the bold shades of pink, turquoise, and orange. I love color, and gladly embrace it any chance that I get!  I couldn’t wait to dive into the glittery rub-ons, die-cuts with gold foil and embossed images, wood veneer, layered stickers and printed cork pieces.  I also fell in love right away with the two packs of Thickers letter stickers, included in the collection. I couldn’t wait to get the collection in my hot little hands and create with it. And, even though I love Thickers (I do, I really do!) and hoard them any chance I get, I couldn’t wait to create my own custom titles. Which brings me to my post – five ideas for scrapbooking with creative titles.

Shine

Creating a sequin title is easy and creates a big impact on a project. The idea to create a sequin title came to me while I was at the craft supply store looking at ribbons and I saw sequins sold by the roll. Because they are already stitched together they are easy to manipulate, position and use. To create my sequin title I first cut the word “shine” with my silhouette and then used the negative piece as a stencil. I used liquid glue to adhere the word down. I found that it was easiest to adhere the word down while the template was still in place, otherwise the word moved to much and fell out of place. To finish, simply cut off the excess from the sequin roll and make sure that the ends are glued down well so that none of the sequins fall off.

I'm excited to share a new layout with you using the Doo-Dads cut file from The Cut Shoppe.

To create my layout I took the happy file (included in the Doo-Dads cut file set) and opened it in my Silhouette Studio software program.  I used a copy + paste option to repeat the pattern 9 times and then cut the file from patterned paper.

5+ Photos with American Crafts

Hi Friends,

I'm back again today to share another layout that I made for the American Crafts blog.  We were given the challenge to create a layout using 5 or more photos.  When working with multiple photos on a page, I like to print them small and work them into my background.

Play

How to: Apply drops of inky black spray mist to background paper and set aside to dry.  In Silhouette studio create 9 large squares.  Cut squares out of various pieces of patterned paper (from the Shimelle collection).  Use a paper trimmer or scissors to cut squares into 4 equal triangles.  Print off small photos and cut into triangle shapes.   Adhere triangles and photos to background paper.  Use a sewing machine to stitch down.  In Silhouette Studio cut title 'play' out of black cardstock and adhere to bottom left hand side of page.  Using thickers and tiny alphas stickers spell out the words "run, jump, play" on the bottom right hand side of layout.  Finish page by adhering stickers, wood veneer and chipboard pieces.

Shimelle (368141) - Hopper, Shimelle (368136) - Goodall, Shimelle (368137) - Crane, Shimelle (368143) - Earhart, Shimelle (368145) - Herschel, Shimelle (368146) - Resnick, Shimelle (368149) - Curie, Shimelle (368152) - Haynes,  Shimelle (368154) - Rubin, Shimelle (368160) - 6x6 Paper Pad, Shimelle (368163) - Dunbar/Gold Foil Thickers, Shimelle (368164) - Phrase & Alpha Cardstock Stickers, Shimelle (368165) - Layered Chipboard Stickers, Shimelle (368166) - Accent & Phrase Sticker Book, Mister Huey's (SC1-31064) - Misting Spray Inky Black, Adhesive (AM617-13) - This To That Dispenser, Essentials (ESS-CHP-32095) - Chipboard Shapes Stars Red & Pink, Classic Calico (CC2-WV3-31052) - Wood Veneer Shapes Tiny Stars

1.  Apply gesso generously to the front of a 12x12 canvas.

2.  Once the gesso s dry, apply watercolor paints to canvas and set aside to dry.

3. Using a punch or die cut machine cut out enough hearts to cover the front of your canvas.  I cut out roughly 4 medium shape hearts for this.

4. Line up hearts on canvas and adhere down using liquid or permanent adhesive.

5.  Use a die cut machine or template to trace a large heart onto glitter cardstock and cut out.  Adhere to front of canvas.

6.  In Silhouette Studio open up the Shimelle word banner cut file (made by American Crafts), resize to your liking and cut onto black cardstock.  Adhere to canvas.

All finished and ready to display!

Easy, cute, and a perfect addition to any room's decor!
